For small fish that require supplementary live feed, black soldier fly larvae are an excellent food source. Lin Yufeng points out that the specifications for small aquatic live feed are crucial. First, it is essential to ensure that the larvae are the size of a grain of rice; if they are too large, small aquatic species cannot consume them. Additionally, the live feed must be clean to avoid contaminating the water quality. Meeting these two key conditions is the greatest advantage of Xun Chuang Biotechnology.

The standard black soldier fly larvae can also be used to feed mitten crabs or Thai shrimp. This year, Wu Chunming, who won first prize at the "Miaoli County Mitten Crab Evaluation Competition," used Xun Chuang Biotechnology’s black soldier fly feed for his crabs.

In general, when farming mitten crabs, feed is often supplemented with bycatch fish. However, the quality of bycatch fish can be inconsistent, and they must be processed before feeding. If too much feed is provided and not consumed, it can easily spoil and degrade water quality. In contrast, the outer chitin of black soldier fly larvae makes them less prone to spoilage and water contamination, allowing for a larger margin of error in feeding. If too much is given today, the mitten crabs can still consume it tomorrow.

Additionally, feeding Thai shrimp black soldier fly larvae has shown to yield earlier harvests. Due to the barbecue season during the Mid-Autumn Festival, the price of Thai shrimp is usually at its highest before the festival. This year, shrimp farmers collaborating with Xun Chuang Biotechnology harvested approximately two weeks earlier than their competitors in the same region, achieving a high meat yield and plump roe, thus saving on feed costs while seizing market opportunities.
