"The facilities at Innors Biotechnology's Miaoli plant utilize 14 layers of vertical space to categorize insect larvae, producing uniquely sized sesame sprouts, rice grain sprouts, and the most common size on the market, approximately 1.5 to 2 centimeters in length.

General Manager Lin Yu-Feng added that sesame sprouts can be directly fed to laying hens, reducing the volume of chicken manure by about 60-70% and effectively suppressing the number of flies in the chicken coop. Flies are a headache for poultry farms as they can contaminate eggs, and the introduction of black soldier flies can significantly improve the farming environment, especially by greatly reducing ammonia and odor.

"We can save on the costs of fly control medications and manure removal, as well as enjoy the intangible benefits of environmental improvement and reduced need for staff to clean eggs (removing fly droppings)," Lin Yu-Feng said. This model has been in operation for over a year, and Innors Biotechnology has established long-term partnerships with poultry farms throughout central and southern Taiwan. The black soldier flies that grow on chicken manure are not recycled; instead, they are sent to composting facilities along with the manure."
