The black soldier fly is regarded as the perfect insect, with its larvae known for consuming kitchen waste, feces, and organic matter from both plants and animals, with an impressive appetite. The larvae can also be used as a feed additive to boost protein content. Recognizing the potential of the black soldier fly in the circular economy, a group of young professionals with a background in biological sciences founded "Innors Biotechnology Co., Ltd."  They established an "animal feed manufacturing plant" in Miaoli, acquiring a new patent for an automated production line to ensure scientific insect farming. Next year, with a three-pronged approach, they plan to increase production and provide an eco-friendly solution for environmental sustainability.

In natural aquatic environments, there is already a rich insect ecology, making insects a very suitable food source for most small and medium-sized fish. Supplementing with insect feed in appropriate amounts not only balances the amino acids and fatty acids in the fish’s diet but also provides chitin, which significantly boosts fish immunity. This can effectively enhance the fish's resistance to diseases.

"Black soldier flies have been discussed for years within academic networks in countries like the Netherlands, the United States, Canada, South Africa, and China. However, Taiwan has only started to understand them in the past four or five years."

In response to the cautious reply from the Livestock Department, Jia Yuxiang candidly stated that foundational research must continue. At this stage, the habits of the black soldier fly have been studied, and an efficient egg collection model has been developed based on these habits. "Collecting 10 kilograms of eggs in a day is definitely not a dream," he said.
